Who we are
Harbour Kitchen is a recipe and cooking app run by Okechukwu Ikwunze, Maryland, USA. Questions or requests about your data: harbourkitchenplus@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
Account: email address, or your Google account's name and email; a guest account has no email
To sign you in and keep your recipes in sync
Kept until you delete your account
Your recipes, notes, collections, meal plans, shopping lists and pantry items
To provide the app
Kept until you delete them or your account. Deleted recipes stay in a bin for 30 days, then are removed
A guest's stay on the phone and reach us only if the guest creates an account
Profile and food preferences: your name, units, and the diets, allergies, dislikes and cooking skill you choose
To tailor the app. Allergies you enter are used to flag ingredients, never as a guarantee
Until you change them or delete your account
Recipe photos you add from your gallery
To show on your recipe
Kept until you delete the recipe or your account. A photo no recipe uses is deleted once it is 7 days old
Photos of dishes you take or upload
To identify a dish
Deleted when the import ends. If you save the generated recipe, your phone's copy of the photo is stored as that recipe's photo until you delete the recipe or your account
Photos of cookbook pages and screenshots you scan
To read a recipe
Kept until you delete your account, unless you choose "Delete after import" (Settings, Privacy)
Text or speech you paste or dictate
To turn it into a recipe; speech is converted to text on your device by Android
Kept as the recipe you save, and with the import record until you delete your account
Links you import and their source details (site name, creator name)
To import the recipe and credit its source
Kept with the recipe

To answer them
We do not store them, only a count of the AI usage. See "How we use AI"

To share recipes, plans and lists with the people you choose
Kept until you leave the household or delete your account
Purchases: subscription status (we never see your card details)

Reports you send us (a link, a recipe reference and what you wrote)
To look into bad imports, copyright concerns and offensive AI content
Kept until your account is deleted
App diagnostics: crash reports, device type and your account ID (never your email or recipe text). You can turn these off
To fix bugs

To improve Harbour Kitchen
Kept 12 months
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or use your recipes or photos to train AI models.
How we use AI
Harbour Kitchen uses an AI service (Anthropic, Claude) to identify dishes in photos, turn links, text and screenshots into recipes, and answer assistant questions. We send it only what that task needs. We do not store your prompts or the AI's replies. Anthropic does not use them to train its models, and deletes them within 30 days, or keeps them for up to 2 years if they are flagged as breaking its usage policy. Details the AI estimates are marked "AI estimate" for you to check.
Nutrition and allergens
Nutrition figures are estimates matched from USDA FoodData Central, not from AI. Allergen information comes from the ingredient list and means "may contain". Allergen and nutrition information is never guaranteed: always check ingredients yourself.
Importing from websites and social media
When you import a link, we read the recipe from that page and save a link back to it with its creator's name. For TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, we build the recipe from the caption or screenshots you provide, and may show the platform's official embed, which that platform provides. We don't download videos. For YouTube we read the video's title and description through YouTube's API; that data is deleted or refreshed within 30 days, and YouTube's Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy also apply.
Who we share data with
Only service providers that run Harbour Kitchen for us, under contracts that limit how they use it:
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage (US).
- Anthropic (Claude): AI features, as above.
- Railway: the server that reads recipes from links (US).
- USDA FoodData Central: ingredient names, to look up nutrition. No account details are sent.
- RevenueCat and Google Play: subscriptions and payments.
- Sentry: crash reports. PostHog: usage analytics.
- Google: sign-in, if you choose Google.
People in your household see the recipes, plans and lists you share with them. We disclose data to authorities only when the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
- Export: download your data in Settings, under Data and backup. A guest needs to create a free account first, because a guest's recipes stay on the phone. The export file is deleted 7 days after it is made.
- Delete: delete your account in the app, or follow our delete-my-account page on this website. Guests can delete their account too. We delete your data within 30 days; backups expire within 90 days. Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription.
- Analytics and crash reports: turn either off in Settings, under Privacy.
- Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, restrict or object to our use of your data, and to complain to your data protection authority. Contact harbourkitchenplus@gmail.com; we reply within 30 days.
Children
Harbour Kitchen is not meant for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their data; if we learn we have, we delete it.
Security and storage
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. AI keys stay on our servers, never in the app. Your data is stored in the US; where it moves to other countries, we use standard contractual safeguards.
Changes
We'll post changes here and tell you in the app before significant changes take effect. Last updated: Nov 2, 2026.
